TIME TO TALK
Thinking about
Therapy

Maybe you’ve landed here because you’re wondering whether therapy might be right for you at the moment.
I’ve deliberately put a lot of information on this site. Not as a substitute for therapy, but as somewhere to explore thoughts, reflect, and perhaps find little places of recognition.
Sometimes that’s enough.
And sometimes it makes us realise there’s something we’d like a bit more space to think about.
People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons.
Sometimes something in life is really hard.
A bereavement.
An addiction.
A betrayal.
A relationship ending.
A diagnosis.
Something happening at work or within your family.
Perhaps something happened a long time ago, but you’re beginning to realise it hasn’t stayed quite as firmly in the past as you thought.
And sometimes there isn’t an obvious thing at all.
Life just feels slightly misaligned.
You don’t quite feel like yourself. You know something isn’t working, but you can’t necessarily explain what it is.
Sometimes the first thing someone says when they sit down is:
“I’m not really sure what’s brought me here. I just know I can’t keep doing things the way I am.”
That’s enough of a place to begin.
we go at your pace.
Therapy isn’t about forcing answers or somebody else telling you what you should do.
It’s about having some time and space for your thoughts and feelings, including the contradictory, uncomfortable or slightly messy ones.
The things you don’t know what to do with.
The things you’re tired of carrying.
The things you might not feel able to say anywhere else.
There might be things you want to understand.
Patterns you keep finding yourself in.
Relationships that feel difficult.
Decisions you’re struggling to make.
Maybe you need somewhere where you don’t have to look after anybody else’s feelings.
you can say the things you don't normally say.
One of the unusual things about therapy is that the space belongs to you.
There’s no need to make what you’re feeling more reasonable, more acceptable or easier for somebody else to hear.
No judgement.
No guilt.
Just somewhere you can put some of it down, unpack it, look at it from a few different angles and decide what’s worth keeping.
And what perhaps isn’t yours to carry anymore.
What you talk about in therapy is confidential. There are some important limits to confidentiality, particularly where there are serious concerns about your safety or somebody else’s. I’ll explain these clearly when we begin working together, so you know exactly where you stand.
what might we talk about?
Almost anything.
Something happening right now.
A difficult relationship with a partner, parent, child, friend or colleague.
Loss.
Anxiety.
Addiction.
Identity.
A relationship that has ended but doesn’t quite feel finished.
A diagnosis that has changed how you see yourself or your future.
Something from years ago that still has a surprising ability to make itself felt today.
Or something you can’t yet put a name to.
You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what the problem is.
Sometimes finding the words is part of the work.
Sessions are 50 minutes and can take place in person or online via Zoom.
We can talk about what has brought you here, what you’re hoping for even if you’re not quite sure yet and whether working together feels right for you.
And whatever you decide, there’s no obligation to continue.
